Trump, Zelenskyy Discuss Upcoming Munich Meeting, US Pushes for Peace Talks

Washington, DC : In a significant diplomatic development, US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, following an earlier discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The talks centered around the upcoming Munich meeting, where US officials will push for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the conversations, stating that the discussions between Trump and Zelenskyy were “very positive,” reinforcing the US administration’s commitment to brokering a peace deal.

“The President just had a conversation with Russian President Putin,” Leavitt said at a press conference. “They had a lengthy discussion, and the President issued a statement outlining the details. Shortly afterward, he spoke with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, who, like President Putin, also seeks peace. Their primary focus was the meeting scheduled for Friday in Munich, where Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance will lead the US delegation.”

Trump Calls for Peace

Expressing optimism about the forthcoming talks, Trump stated, “It’s time to put an end to this absurd conflict that has caused a great deal of needless death and ruin. May the people of Russia and Ukraine be blessed.”

Zelenskyy later took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share his perspective on the call. “I had a long and detailed discussion with President Trump. I appreciate his genuine interest in our common future and the possibility of achieving true peace. We discussed political, military, and economic issues, including what President Putin conveyed to him,” Zelenskyy wrote.

Trump-Putin Dialogue

Prior to speaking with Zelenskyy, Trump engaged in an extensive discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin, covering a wide range of topics including the war in Ukraine, the Middle East, artificial intelligence, and energy. Trump described the conversation as “lengthy and productive,” emphasizing the potential benefits of future US-Russia cooperation.

“We recalled the great history of our nations, including our alliance during World War II,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account. “Despite our past losses, we both recognize the importance of working together. But first, as we agreed, we must put an end to the war in Ukraine. President Putin even referenced my campaign slogan, ‘COMMON SENSE.’”

Trump further revealed that both sides had agreed to start negotiations immediately, with US officials—including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff—leading the US effort.

Munich Meeting Set to Shape Peace Talks

The upcoming Munich meeting is expected to serve as a crucial forum for shaping future peace negotiations. According to Trump, his discussions with Putin and Zelenskyy have laid the groundwork for diplomatic engagement aimed at ending the war.

Trump also thanked Putin for facilitating the release of Marc Fogel, an American detained in Russia. “I want to express my gratitude to President Putin for his efforts in this conversation and for Marc Fogel’s release. I believe this initiative will lead to a successful resolution, hopefully soon,” he stated.

With international eyes set on the Munich talks, the possibility of a breakthrough remains uncertain, but the renewed diplomatic efforts mark a significant shift in US foreign policy under Trump’s administration.
